In my never ending goal to reach the end of the internet every night, I usually come across some pretty cool stuff. In the wee hours of this morning I came across some great art work created by Jeffrey Thomas of Art of Jeffrey Thomas. He recreated all the princesses as twisted warriors… Check it out! I think my fav would have to be Maid Marian or Wendy.

There are a few more through out his site, one of Tinkerbell, some other franchises like Marvel and DC, even some video game characters. Also, he has another site where he created Disney character themed racing cars… If Tinkerbell Could Drive and they are really cool! These sites are fairly out of date and don’t know much else about his work currently but it’s definitely worth checking out! Enjoy!

A brand of 1.5″, 3″, and 9″ vinyl collectibles sold at Disney theme parks, select Disney Stores, and online Disney Store. The name Vinylmation is a combination of the word Animation and Vinyl. The figures are all shaped like Mickey Mousebut have different themed markings, colors and patterns. Vinylmation was first introduced in July 2008, and the first figures were introduced in November 2008. In most releases there are cases of vinylmation that hold 24 vinylmation, there will be one of each plus duplicates. There is one in each that is a special “chaser” that is hard to find and highly sought out. The catch (and draw) is that you don’t know what you are getting until you open box and unwrap it. There are blind boxes that are in a set that you just know the theme and nothing else, pick random ones is called ‘bloxing’. Then there’s open window series that are clear on the front so you can see what it is and pick out what you want.

This set, Whiskers and Tales, is a follow up to Furry Friends which turned out to be a nightmare. Whiskers and Tales was supposed to be the redeeming vinylmation that made up for FF (Furry Friends) mistakes. FF vinylmation is(was) the vinylmation of some of our favorite Disney character animals like Pluto, Marie, Meeko, and so on. The packaging was extra special for these, since it was animals the boxes were shaped like little animal carriers that you get at a pet store. Disney was also helping a charity, for every vinylmation purchased, a dollar of it would go to ASPCA. Once people started getting them and looking over them it was apparent that quality control wasn’t used (or they didnt care) because they almost ALL had something wrong with them- missing paint detail, smudged, dinged, dirty. Eventually the complaints were so bad that Disney decided to pull them off the shelves indefinitely, they also offered a refund to those who wanted to return there FF. FAT CHANCE! Pretty soon the value for them went up and everyone was looking to trade or buy to complete their collection. For a while Disney tossed around the idea that they would rerelease them with better quality control, basically the rumors stopped until we heard talk of the new Whiskers and Tales.

Whiskers and Tales is pretty much the same thing as Furry Friends but with a rename and different characters and what we hoped for the most, quality control!! The only difference this time was that there was no donation from purchase of product (not sure if there was a reason for it or not).

This morning I left bright and early with mini-minster in tow to meet Elantrice of Diz Thru Brown Eyes at Mall of Georgia to get in line so we could blox some Whiskers and Tales vinylmation. To our (or maybe my) surprise, no one else was there. I thought for sure that there woud be at least the usuals since FF was recalled and people wanted Pegasus badly. E and I walked in, grabbed our bloxes that we thought would be lucky and also saw that with every vinylmation purchase you could get a free Wrestler or Nursery Rhyme (sets that weren’t ver popular). You can also get one when you buy a discounted vinylmation, you guys know I totally racked up since I do customs (a post for a later date). We strolled around to look at other merchandise and clearance items and I think E grabbed some villains stuff, mini-monster wanted the Chase Edition of Lightning McQueen die cast car. E and I know the cast member well at our local store so we always stay and open our bloxes for them because a few are also enthusiastic collectors as well (yay!).

and yes, I did pull the chaser, so exciting. I would have like to get a couple more but I also wanted to get some sale ones. Now, I heard this afternoon that there were actual issues, some people complaining of messed up painting (again)- one had a missing ear, smudges, missing detail. There were also reports of cases being packed wrong, some had two chasers and 3 or 4 of certain characters. If they are more complaints and bad packaging I imagine there would be another recall. If that happens again then I wonder how the vinylmation community will handle it. I will update the blog if I hear more on it but as for that, heres some more stuff I got. (I got so many wrestlers and they weren’t that popular that I am not going to bother posting them, at least not in this blog post.)

I am following along with a sub-reddit http://www.reddit.com/r/SketchDaily/ personally and while I haven’t posted a sketch there (mostly because I’m not confident enough to share) I am planning to post them on here, maybe not every day but do a collective post at the end of the week?

I have a few things in store for me this year that I am excited about, one thing is my best friend Christa is getting married to her wonderful fiance in October and I am her Maid of Honor, wooo!! You guys should check out her site www.raebeamphotography.com, she does amazing work and is such a great person! I have been dabbling in a lot of different craft/art stuff, I’ve made custom vinylmations (which I will share soon), painted some pictures, into drawing, sewed… all sorts of things and can’t wait to share all of that with you.

As ar as that goes, a few of my resolutions are: be better with my blog! (obviously), get into dress shape for wedding in October, follow thru more with my passions in art/crafting, there are more but those are some that I want to share with you guys. What are your resolutions? How do you plan to stick to them? Here’s to looking forward and cherishing the past whether it was good or bad (we learn from our mistakes).

It feels great to be back and stay with me for more!!
